Guide to Completing a
Pioneer Assessment
Pioneer enables individuals to quickly assess the strengths and weaknesses of a single-site manufacturing operation producing a report containing an analysis, recommendations for improvement and the financial benefits of doing so. The OAG Pioneer Assessment can be completed in under 90 minutes.
Completing the Assessment
The assessment requires the completed questionnaire and data for calculating the financial benefits.
The Questionnaire
The assessment focuses on seven components that influence both operational and financial performance. These components are divided into six sub-components, each with five levels of grading. This level of detail is necessary to provide a comprehensive view of the operation. To complete their assignment, the individual will select the statement in the questionnaire that best describes either the Aspirational goal or Current state for each sub-component.
Examples of sub-component grading selection for aspiration and current condition
Aspiration
Select the statement that reflects the goals and ambitions of the operation for each sub-component.
Current State
Select the statement that reflects the current state of the operation for each sub-component. Enter Aspiration then Current state for each sub-component. Progress through the questionnaire is indicated by the dial located top right.
Financial Benefits Calculation
The assessment includes a financial benefits calculation. This combines the assessment result with company financial data and your improvement expectation. The calculation is based on the premise that operations has the responsibility for converting sales orders into revenue whilst controlling the conversion costs i.e. cost of sales.
Revenue and Cost of Sales
The assessment leader enters the annual revenue and the annual cost of sales (either as a value or as a percentage of annual revenue) into the financial data table as part of the set-up process.
Improvement Selection
The benefit calculation estimates the potential cost of sales improvement for achieving the aspirational targets for each component when starting from its current state. The assessment leader estimates the percentage improvement for each component. OAG improvement percentages are based on experience, however, the assessment leader has the option to use the OAG percentages or select their own or a combination of both.
Assessment Completion
The assessment is finished once the questionnaire has been completed and financial data entered.
